What is SIP?

SIP is a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for creating and controlling voice and video calls, as well as instant messaging. This means you can use your data or broadband connection to make and receive calls, rather than using a traditional ISDN line.

The savings made possible by SIP are enormous, which is why more and more businesses are switching every day. SIP also allows far greater flexibility when it comes to routing and directing your calls, and what numbers you present when dialling out.

How it works…

When you send and receive data over the internet, the path between your device and the one you are communicating with is not always the same. When browsing the web this doesn’t really matter because you’re not making a continuous connection to the server, you’re only requesting something and receiving a response (a lot like the postal service, the mail delivery van will not always travel the same route). When you’re making a phone call however, you want a continuous channel to ensure an uninterrupted stream of audio and/or video.

SIP creates a direct connection between your organisation and an Internet Telephony Service Provider (ITSP), who then route the call to its destination. Because SIP trunks are easier and less expensive to design, operate, and maintain, an investment in SIP trunking technologies can deliver quick and substantial returns, as well as cheaper long distance calls.

Why use SIP?

Bring your office phone and data networks together into one, IP-based network. This means you can get rid of costly phone line subscription fees and you’re not limited by restrictions imposed by major telephony providers.
You can display geographic numbers anywhere in the country, meaning your customers always see a local number on their caller ID.
Re-route your calls easily to eradicate disruption. Nobody in the office? SIP allows you to re-route the call to one or more mobiles if no one is available to answer, meaning your customers are never left waiting.
Need to call abroad? Long distance services cost significantly less when routed via SIP trunk platforms.
We offer reliable, secure leased lines to ensure your SIP connection remains uncontested, giving you higher call carrying capacity.
